allcreatures:

A granary woodpecker stores thousands of nuts in holes in a tree at Stanford University in California. The busy birds spend their time boring holes in granary trees, before carefully slotting the nuts into them. Photographer Michael Yang said: “They carefully pick acorns from oak trees and fly them to nearby storage/granary trees which sometimes hold up to 50,000 acorns. Some of the trees have so many holes that you can see right through the trunk and limbs! In some places, it looks like the tree is about to snap in two.”
